Hi Everyone. Sorry I didn’t get a post up last week before I headed off to India for a friend’s wedding. The last minute things got a little crazy and up until the last minute I was still not sure how to dress for 100 degree and humid weather. However, since I have been taking the weekend easy so that I can recover, I have had some time to write up another post for egg onion rings.
Egg onion rings is a cute way to add a little flair to a fried egg. This was something that a special someone stumbled upon while looking for some breakfast recipes. It took us a few visits before we actually brought ourselves to do this but it is super easy and kind of a fun way to eat an egg. To take things over the top, we had breakfast sausage, sea salt topped French bread and homemade shoestring potato hashbrowns. It was an excellent breakfast but I am thinking I won’t need to eat for the rest of the day. Well, maybe I have some room for some jelly beans. The idea for the egg onion rings were found on this website: neatorama.com. While their eggs were really pristine looking, I wanted the egg whites on mine to be completely set. This resulted in a nice crisped up bottom to contrast with the soft egg and onion. It was really fun and other people have experimented with other types of vegetables…like a green pepper. So go crazy.
Egg Onion Rings
Ingredients
1 yellow onion
4 eggs
olive oil and butter for the pan
- Slice the onion in ½ inch thick slices. Cut across the onion, horizontally to make rings.
- Heat some olive oil and butter in a pan at medium heat. When the pan is hot enough put in 4 rings. Try to pick the thickest and largest ones.
- Cook the rings for a few minutes on one side and then flip over. Once all of the rings are flipped add 1 egg into the center of each one.
- Cook until the eggs are done to your liking! I had to turn the heat down a little and cooked the eggs until the whites were completely set.
This was a really cute way to change up a standard fried egg! Plus it was pretty easy and surprisingly these eggs were all done on the first attempt. Happy eating.
Wow! Very cool. When I first looked at them, I thought the egg was sitting on an English
muffin. I guessed the onion part was just the seasoning or something.
What fun you have with your dishes! I also love that you don’t have to be concerned
with the egg spreading out too much.
I am glad you like it! It was something fun to do on a Saturday morning.
